VEX Robotics Competitions in Ireland

From the very first VEX Robotics Competition in Ireland (8th November 2012 in City Hall, Cork) where 10 teams competed, the community has grown into nearly 250 teams who compete year-on-year in the VEX IQ Robotics Competition or VEX V5 Robotics Competitions at regional events all across Ireland. Launched in coordination with the Global Robotics & Science Foundation, global sponsor - and Cork-based - Dell Technologies, the growth would not have been possible without the support of partners such as Munster Technical University, Science Foundation Ireland, Lifetime Labs - and many others - who have contributed time, funding and dedication which has resulted in the programmes becoming some of the most engaging STEM activities offered in Ireland!

After a return to in-person events - and a record breaking season - in 2022 - 2023, we are excited to see what the new 2026 - 2027 season will bring as we look to grow across Ireland, bringing in more regions to culminate in the biggest and best Irish National Championship to date!

Mission

All students are natural scientists and engineers. They love to question, tinker, experiment and play. VEX competitions foster these skills and capitalise on the motivational effects of competitions and robotics to help all students create an identity as a STEM learner.

VEX competitions are also a great way to expose students to valuable soft skills like communication, collaboration and time-management in a fun and authentic way.

Vision

The VEX Robotics competition prepares students to become future innovators with 95% of participants reporting an increased interest in STEM subject areas and pursuing STEM-related careers.

We see a future where all students design and innovate as part of a team, experience failure, persevere, and embrace STEM. These lifelong learners emerge confident in their ability to make the world a better place.
